Project Concept

A social recipe-sharing app with structured preparation steps, a recipe’s country/region of origin, comments and likes, and an Ionic interface that works as both a mobile and web app.

What the Interface Shows

A recipe feed in both dark and light modes, two recipe-detail pages with real likes and comments, two profile pages showing both avatar states, and a create-recipe form.

My Role and Decisions

During live verification, I found the comment count displaying zero in the main feed despite real comments existing — the feed query simply wasn’t returning any comment reference at all. The fix added a lightweight reference (just the id, not full comment content) so the client could compute the count without loading unnecessary data. When I checked again after deployment, I found the same defect specifically in the “My Posts” page (a different query from the main feed), and applied the exact same fix there. I also found the default avatar breaking due to a double slash in the URL, which I fixed at the join point rather than altering the stored data.

Technical Aspects

Express + Sequelize with a PostgreSQL database, an Ionic React client built with Vite (works as both mobile and web), swappable image storage (local/Cloudinary, with an extended field length to accommodate long Cloudinary URLs), and native bcrypt authentication.

Project Value in the Portfolio

This project demonstrates tracking the same underlying defect across two different data queries (the public feed versus “My Posts”), and fixing a broken image URL by correcting the join point rather than the underlying data.
